AWOL. But now I’m back!

Well hello Friend!

It’s been a long, long time since this little corner of the Internet has seen any action!

Life just seemed to get so complicated and sad after my ATB (Around The Bay) race and I kind of lost myself in the loss of my sweet girl Sammy. She passed away due to complications from surgery and it was so utterly painful that I just didn’t know what exactly to do. It was my first pet loss, but they are never easy. For me it was heartbreaking and going over all the what ifs, and maybe I should have of the time leading up to her loss that was making dealing with losing her so difficult.

Someone suggested I “foster” a puppy to help me deal with the grieving but I didn’t want to even hear of it. But the more I thought about it the more it made sense – to take my sadness and turn that negative energy into something positive.
That is how I met Lucy.  Cute huh?  Well I will have to post her story soon so you can meet her!

Things around us have been pretty busy and so much has happen since my last post.  I am still running and just hit my biggest challenge this past October – I not only ran but completed my first full marathon!  I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I am to have achieved this goal.  It was a lot of hard work and many sacrifices along the way – was it worth it?  You bet it was!

I will posting photos and some of the adventures that I’ve had in running as well.  I have made some amazing friends and have shared tears and heartbreak along the way but at the end of the day- despite my thoughts that I would only run one marathon in my life, even before I crossed that finish line I already knew that there would be another race in my future.

I am still cooking and baking and trying out all sorts of projects – craft, organizational and household dyi’s.  Stay tuned because I am back and am ready to start filling up this blog with some of the things I love and hopefully you will join me in my adventures!

It feels good and right to be back.  The timing is just perfect!

Thanks for stopping by.

Spring is here!

Happy first day of Spring!

I thought that I would send everyone lots of Happy Spring wishes on this very first day of the season – not only because its Spring but because the UN has officially declared today International Day of Happiness!

The official blurb from the UN is:

The United Nations has declared March 20 the first International Day of Happiness to underline the commitment of its 193 member states to “better capture the importance of the pursuit of happiness and well-being in development with a view to guiding their public policies.”

Well – that works for me! 🙂  So to celebrate happy things (and things that make me smile and laugh a lot)  I am sharing this photo of my sweet Max (breed:  Bug, 1/2 Boston Terrier, 1/2 Fawn Pug) wishing all of you ….

A Very Happy First Day of Spring!

The 3.

Yes, you read correctly.

I have 3 dogs.

I know – what was I thinking?

No, I’m not THAT crazy dog lady, it just kind of happened, having 3 dogs.  I actually had 4 up until last year, when I had to say good-bye to my sweet boy Duffy.  I am including him in this post as he was such an integral part of not only my life but that of my family and some close friends.

So yes, I actually had 4 dogs.  I get asked if having that many dogs is a lot of work and some days it is and most days, its such a joy.

Let me introduce you to the gang 🙂

First there is Duffy (he sadly left us after a very brave and short battle with a fatal tumor of the stomach).  I had written this introduction to Duffy while he was still with us and never really got around to posting it so in what was the present tense.  In a way – he is still with me, in my heart and in my dreams and he is whole and beautiful and full of life and spunk.

He is my old boy and also my best boy. He is a 12-year-old German Sheppard-Terrier Mix. He is a sweetheart and is the probably the smartest (read best behaved) dog in the house. He is just now getting to the point where I can tell he is winding down. It makes me really sad and I try not to think about it, but I know that he’s starting to move slower, eating less and sleeping more. But as a friend just said about her aging Boston – my dog will be very loved and I will do my best to keep him happy and comfortable.

My sweet Duffy.

Then there’s Sammy. She is a sweet 11-year-old White Boxer Mix with beautiful blue eyes. She is the Diva of the house and is a delicate and very loving girl. She’s getting up there in age too but still got a spring in her step and loves to play. Even as an old girl she gave birth to 7 puppies, one of which was a stillborn and the rest have grown up to be absolutely gorgeous dogs. I should know, one of her pups is the last of the gang! More on motherhood later.

*update:  Sammy has developed a hernia and due to her advanced age will most likely not be able to handle the surgery.  I am keeping her comfortable and watching her carefully to ensure she has the best quality of life.  She is still have an excellent appetite but is now starting to have some problems walking due to the pressure of the hernia on one of her legs.   I know as I write this that her time is nearing and it breaks my heart to know that once again I will have to say good-bye to another of my sweet dogs.  As I promised each of them and myself – I would always do my best and do what is right for them.

Next is Max. Max….. he is my funny boy. He is the most loving, funniest, spunkiest dog ever! He is the smallest of the bunch but regardless of size is fearless and definitely has a Napoleon complex. He turns 4 this coming November. He is very popular with my friends and has many alias – as do all of my dogs. He is also know as Lulo, Leelo,  and Bongo.

Look at that face.... <3

Look at that face…. ❤

And last but certainly not least there is Tigger. Tigger is a gorgeous fawn Boxer (he is 3/4 Boxer as his father is a full bred Boxer and Sam is his mum) with the prettiest blue eyes. He was the 3rd puppy from Sammy and Pecos’s (the father) litter. He is my goofy, sweet boy. Tigger is a year and a half old and full of life and actually bounces just like the Tigger from Winnie the Pooh! He is a very special pup and is best buds with Maxie.

Biggest Puppy. Ever.

Biggest Puppy. Ever.

Because they are such a huge part my life, they will be regularly featured here (in fact I gave them their very own category!).   And you can rest assured that I will post the good, the bad and the ugly about life with my gang. This should be interesting and the blogging will help save my mind 🙂 so stay tuned!
