Pauli’s Friday Favs

Friday Favorites!

My apologies for not posting last week – I was taking care of a family emergency – nothing critical but regardless still needed my full attention.

But I’m back ….So let’s get started on this weeks Pauli’s Friday Fav’s .

*I’ve included a link and site address to each of these items and please note that I am not being paid to promote or advertise any of my Favs  – these are just things that I have discovered online in my internet travels and want to share with you!

Since this weekend ends with St. Paddy’s Day, it is only fitting that I cover some green-ish things on this post – don’t you think? Lets start with one of my biggest favorite things – food!

Main Dish Favs

Sweet Potato Burger.  How delicious does this look?!  I am a big fan of Sweet Potatoes and I think this is a brilliant and healthy way to enjoy a burger AND your veggies!  This recipe along with some other excellent vegetarian options can be found at this lovely blog called Lunch Box Bunch (

With the warmer weather starting to come around and thinking of fun time at the lake or beach….now is the perfect time to eat fresh and clean!

House & Home Favs

Can you say Summer?!  Well folks, I think this would be a welcome addition to any patio in your home or cottage!  Just set the ice down, fill one section with adult bevvies and the other with water bottles and pop and you are set!  I think this is a brilliant idea to even use as decor and just fill up with water and float candles in the channels and voila – instant atmosphere.

Great blog with some really great ideas for DYIers – have a look at their farmhouse table… want one!!

Floral Favs

Sometimes the simplest is the most elegant!  Spring tulips are available anywhere and are super reasonably priced for this simple center piece idea.  I think this would be a lovely Sunday brunch idea or for something a little more formal.  You can check out the how to’s right here:  They have lots of other really simple and beautiful ideas at this blog – so creative…

I just love this!

Motivation Favs

This weekend I will be running 29km on my Long Slow Run with my pack (that includes my sister).  I am a little nervous, I am a little anxious but will be very – VERY glad to have it done.  I am running the Around The Bay Race in Hamilton, ON next weekend and that one is the oldest road race in North America and kind of a big deal….. so I need ALL of the motivation I can get.  So this week I am loving this one:

Sweetspot Fav

And for a bit o the Irish…. Here are a few really wonderful and sweet items to consider trying – or at least drooling over…..

The first is a Chocolate Bailey’s Mud Cake.  Oh my word.  Will you just look at this??  Now if you are not inclined to indulge with the Bailey’s – I’m pretty confident that this cake will get you some serious ohhh’s and aahhh’s if you omit the alcohol and just make it kid friendly!

This seriously delicious looking cake recipe can be found at where you will spend quite some time pouring over the other fabulous looking recipes on that blog!

Another drool worth recipe you might want to try this weekend – not exactly a St. Paddy’s Day recipe or Irish in nature or even green….but so delicate and so pretty you might just have to go there!  This blogger is a local gal – right here from Toronto and seriously folks – one of the best ones out there – in my very humble opinion!

She has some truly beautiful photos and the recipes to go with this fabulous food!  Please do stop by and have a look – make yourself a cup of tea or coffee and enjoy!

Great Big World Fav

Today I am paying homage to a friends beloved pet who sadly passed on.

To my dear friend Peter…this one is for you my friend.  I feel your pain and I share your tears.  I know what it is like to lose a pet and it’s heartbreaking.

Here is to Big Bad Bear.  Beloved Boxer of Peter.

RIP Bear. Duffy will be there to show you around buddy!

Natural Fuel for a training run.

I think I am totally going to have to make these!  Instead of eating those energy gel before a run I think these would be perfect!

I’m not a huge date fan so I may have to switch it up a bit with dried figs… stay tune!  When I make these I’ll be sure to post it under The Test Kitchen tab for you.3-in-one-energy-bars - perfect fuel for my runs!

The 3.

Yes, you read correctly.

I have 3 dogs.

I know – what was I thinking?

No, I’m not THAT crazy dog lady, it just kind of happened, having 3 dogs.  I actually had 4 up until last year, when I had to say good-bye to my sweet boy Duffy.  I am including him in this post as he was such an integral part of not only my life but that of my family and some close friends.

So yes, I actually had 4 dogs.  I get asked if having that many dogs is a lot of work and some days it is and most days, its such a joy.

Let me introduce you to the gang 🙂

First there is Duffy (he sadly left us after a very brave and short battle with a fatal tumor of the stomach).  I had written this introduction to Duffy while he was still with us and never really got around to posting it so in what was the present tense.  In a way – he is still with me, in my heart and in my dreams and he is whole and beautiful and full of life and spunk.

He is my old boy and also my best boy. He is a 12-year-old German Sheppard-Terrier Mix. He is a sweetheart and is the probably the smartest (read best behaved) dog in the house. He is just now getting to the point where I can tell he is winding down. It makes me really sad and I try not to think about it, but I know that he’s starting to move slower, eating less and sleeping more. But as a friend just said about her aging Boston – my dog will be very loved and I will do my best to keep him happy and comfortable.

My sweet Duffy.

Then there’s Sammy. She is a sweet 11-year-old White Boxer Mix with beautiful blue eyes. She is the Diva of the house and is a delicate and very loving girl. She’s getting up there in age too but still got a spring in her step and loves to play. Even as an old girl she gave birth to 7 puppies, one of which was a stillborn and the rest have grown up to be absolutely gorgeous dogs. I should know, one of her pups is the last of the gang! More on motherhood later.

*update:  Sammy has developed a hernia and due to her advanced age will most likely not be able to handle the surgery.  I am keeping her comfortable and watching her carefully to ensure she has the best quality of life.  She is still have an excellent appetite but is now starting to have some problems walking due to the pressure of the hernia on one of her legs.   I know as I write this that her time is nearing and it breaks my heart to know that once again I will have to say good-bye to another of my sweet dogs.  As I promised each of them and myself – I would always do my best and do what is right for them.

Next is Max. Max….. he is my funny boy. He is the most loving, funniest, spunkiest dog ever! He is the smallest of the bunch but regardless of size is fearless and definitely has a Napoleon complex. He turns 4 this coming November. He is very popular with my friends and has many alias – as do all of my dogs. He is also know as Lulo, Leelo,  and Bongo.

Look at that face.... <3

Look at that face…. ❤

And last but certainly not least there is Tigger. Tigger is a gorgeous fawn Boxer (he is 3/4 Boxer as his father is a full bred Boxer and Sam is his mum) with the prettiest blue eyes. He was the 3rd puppy from Sammy and Pecos’s (the father) litter. He is my goofy, sweet boy. Tigger is a year and a half old and full of life and actually bounces just like the Tigger from Winnie the Pooh! He is a very special pup and is best buds with Maxie.

Biggest Puppy. Ever.

Biggest Puppy. Ever.

Because they are such a huge part my life, they will be regularly featured here (in fact I gave them their very own category!).   And you can rest assured that I will post the good, the bad and the ugly about life with my gang. This should be interesting and the blogging will help save my mind 🙂 so stay tuned!
